St. Croix Boat Parade 2015

We attended Boat Parade in St. Croix for the first time last year and had an absolute blast.  This year we had a bigger crew and had even more fun! Because we had eight people, we chartered a flight to St. Croix and enjoyed a really awesome weekend with our friends. If you’re thinking of visiting St. Croix, I would highly recommend The Buccaneer resort. The staff is friendly and helpful and the property is beautiful!

Good morning, St. Croix!

Good advice for island life. Buck Island is in the background. This photo is taken form Point Udall, the easternmost point in the United States.

This is just the way the islands work.

We went to feed beer to the pigs in the rainforest again. Always an adventure! It was fun watching some of the first timers experience this wacky tradition. Next we enjoyed lunch at Rhythms at Rainbow Beach, then headed back to the Buccaneer to get ready for Boat Parade.

Dan got some good photos and video of the boat parade so I’ll update this post when I can!

After a big breakfast at the Buccaneer  on Sunday morning, we headed to Sandy Point. It’s the longest stretch of sand in the Virgin Islands, and the last scene of the movie Shawshank Redemption was filmed here.

The panoramic view doesn’t do Sandy Point justice.

No trip to STX is complete without lunch at La Reine Chicken Shack. You get half a roast chicken and two johnny cakes for just a few bucks. Reinhardts taught us how to make a little sandwich with the chicken and the johnny cake, and topped with La Reine’s special barbecue sauce, lunch is perfect.

Chicken, anyone?

Our trip was so fun and a little bittersweet as it’s probably the last trip we make to STX during our islander life. Thanks to our friends for experiencing it with us! Off to stateside holidays…stay sunny!
